Drupal is a popular content management system that is supported by Zemanta for some time now. It is very powerful which means that there are many different ways to configure it. Some of them are supported by us and this tutorial will show you how to configure your Drupal to support Zemanta.

1. FireFox / IE extension or Drupal plugin?

As you know Zemanta comes in two basic versions: as a browser extension and as a stand-alone plugin. While most platforms work exactly the same, there is a bit of a difference with Drupal.

While browser extensions might work on some Drupal Admin themes, they might fail on non-default ones because Zemanta expects to see right pane that is not present in all the themes. Zemanta Drupal Plugin can fix this during rending.

We recommend you use Zemanta Drupal Plugin for greater compatibility with administrative themes.

2. WYSIWYG editor

You will need WYSIWYG editor activated for your users. We recommend TinyMCE editor as it works best in our experience. Make sure to activate the permissions for your editors to use it.

3. Activate Zemanta

This is a bit tricky as Drupal is very powerful CMS and you need to set things in a few places.

Enable module on Site building -> Module or /admin/build/modules and enable Zemanta module

Then go to Zemanta settings page Site configuration -> Zemanta or admin/settings/zemanta and select on which node types you want
to use Zemanta.

On settings page check if your input filters allow Full HTML tags. The reason for this is that Zemanta adds rich content to your story and needs to use different HTML tags and not just limited text content.

Then go to to block settings page Site building -> Blocks or /admin/build/block and add Zemanta block to right or left sidebar

4. That’s it! Now when you create a new story, Zemanta will load next to the writing area:
